kuina

Leonora Tonini Cáceres, originally from Lautaro, discovered hip-hop through freestyle battles and graffiti, adopting the stage name Kuina (derived from “Cuin”) to express her art in spray paint and in her first musical experiments recorded on her cell phone, such as “Wall-e” and “Colorblind.” In 2021, she moved to Santiago determined to forge her own artistic path, influenced both by global pop icons (Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Rosalía) and by hip-hop figures (Ski Mask the Slump God, Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar), as well as local artists (Chystemc, Ana Tijoux, Catana). As a southern “outsider” in the capital, she immersed herself in the urban scene by working with producers like Xsickboi and Saito Ape and connecting with other emerging women (Akatumamy, Nihla, Amikiraa), eventually joining the Airoxi collective alongside Akriila, Cheskv Liz, Bela, Loyaltty, and others. Her approach blends the rap of her origins, trap, pop, and electronic music, adopting two alter egos: Kuina, whose EP Konejo di plata (2022) features vibrant rhythms, intense sonic textures, and bursts of contained rage; and Leonora Laffont, who offers a more poetic, sensitive, and accessible style for listeners.
